On Wednesday 29th January we welcomed Maria Raga, CEO of fashion resale app Depop as our fourth speaker in our Women of Influence series.

Raga joined Depop in 2014 after a successful career at e-commerce marketplace Groupon. After working at Groupon, Raga recognised that she wanted to work for a company with a decent mobile platform. This was where Depop came in – a mobile-first shopping app that combined fashion with sustainability.

Raga spoke to the girls about the benefits of a business like Depop. It gives young entrepreneurs the opportunity to create their own business and be successful. Depop gives users the ability to build their own profile, photograph their own content and be creative. For some users, this means earning a bit of extra pocket money, whilst for others it becomes a full-time job.

Raga spoke about the sustainability aspect of the fashion resale app, a widely discussed topic amongst the younger generation. Depop is determined to put young people at the forefront of the business. On this, Raga commented The fashion industry has several problems, but young people care about sustainability. We need to allow young people to disrupt the industry.

When asked what her advice would be to girls wanting to be successful in business, Raga said: “Follow your passions and things will work out.”

A huge thank you to Maria Raga for visiting us and being a fantastic role model for young entrepreneurs.
