On Tuesday 22nd March, Santosh Bhanot, Chair of Asian Circle, came in to talk to the girls as part of the Women Of Influence Lecture Series.
Santosh spoke firstly about her career, which has included academia and work in Pharmaceuticals with Procter and Gamble. She then went on to speak compellingly about her work with Asian Circle, a section of humanitarian group The Circle. This was set up by Annie Lennox, and its vision is ‘equality for women and girls in a fairer world’.
The Asian Circle is a network of UK based, professional women who aim to support disadvantaged women in India and South Asia. They work with tribal women in India who are struggling with domestic violence, as well as other issues facing this group as a whole.
It was an incredibly inspiring talk which prompted insightful questions from the girls, on issues ranging from Santosh’s own career experiences to the poverty in areas of South Africa.
