The second Wednesday of June at Francis Holland Regent’s Park has become the highlight of the school calendar. Staff and students circle the date in their calendars while the Art Department staff work tirelessly to curate and hang the work of all our GCSE and A Level artists. This year we had almost 300 young artists represented in the exhibition at St. Cyprian’s.
The Art Exhibition opened on the evening of Wednesday 11 June with students, parents and members of the school community invited to enjoy an evening of celebrating our young artists and the Art Department at Francis Holland.
A joyous and colourful display of Thirds lino prints, sculptures, photography and oil pastels. A small committee of Lower Fourth students helped to curate and hang our first āpop-upā exhibition of paintings and collages on the corridors of Ivor Place. Our GCSE artists delighted guests with film, printmaking, painting, photography, fibre art and sculpture. Cityscapes, surveillance, surrealism and sewing, were displayed alongside portraiture, weaving, pop-up books and handbound sketchbooks
Our A Level artists stepped up to the challenge of holding the largest space in the exhibition. Paintings, film, installation, hanging sculptures, architectural sculptures were all made to share ideas on themes of narrative, identity, heritage,Ā femininity, transformation,Ā body, form and space.
We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements. I would like to thank the Art Department staff for their commitment to our young artists; Helen Gardner, Alice Horn, Anastasia Hiorns and Thea Kelly. We look forward to welcoming you all again next year.
