Reaching out to our alumni across both schools has become more important than ever since the lockdown, and during these uncertain times of social distancing we want to make sure our entire community feels connected.

Our first thought was to contact all our alumni who are over 70 and offer the opportunity of practical and emotional support to those in isolation. The offer to be connected via our Alumni Relations Officer with other alumni in their area or just online via our network has been invaluable to many. We are able to put alumni in touch with alumni – just having someone out there with ‘Francis Holland in common’ can in itself be a huge comfort when family and friends aren’t able to be close. If you would like to join our network go to https://alumni.fhs-nw1.org.uk/ and if you would like to contact our Alumni Relations Officer directly please go to alumni@fhs-nw1.org.uk. Regular communication via email, Facebook and our website is being shared among our community and we have received lots of positive feedback.

Our staff are also continuing to educate the girls remotely and we are looking to share their expertise and knowledge with you. One such example is the appreciation and huge enthusiasm from alumni for Headmaster, Mr FillinghamĀ’s live video recordings which were broadcast out to all pupils, staff and parents across the entire school community. He even filmed a 20-minute end of term assembly including hymns and prize winners, announced by Pastoral Deputy Head, Miss Mahieu and prayers with Senior Deputy Headteacher, Ms Slocombe. The assembly was shared across the network at precisely 9:30am on the last day of term in order that everyone could sing the School Hymn and Jerusalem in time with our Director of MusicĀ’s piano playing! Also, the FHS PE department has been busy creating their own workout challenges which our alumni are welcome to use at home and share with their own families on Twitter @FHS_NW1_Sport.

In the absence of our usual events programme we are focused on creative ways to further engage our alumni communities. An email will soon be sent reminding alumni of our school and social media platforms, as our pupils and staff share their talents! We will also be asking alumni how they are adapting to life indoors with the intention of publishing the best ideas, and also requesting that those who work for the NHS get in touch with a brief word on how they are tackling the challenges they face. We intend to thank our alumni NHS workers by compiling a montage of workers with a brief bio and profile shot, and launch during a Thursday 8pm handclap.

As further support for our community, we will also be encouraging users to post their job and volunteering opportunities on the alumni website. Bringing our whole FHS community together is more important than ever, so please if you have any ideas do contact our Alumni Relations Officer, and if you are an alumna who would like to join our network please go to https://alumni.fhs-nw1.org.uk/
