This week, we were delighted to welcome alumna and Member of Parliament, Jess Asato, for an inspiring talk about her career in politics.

Students from Wetherby Senior, St George’s Catholic School, and St Marylebone joined us to hear Jess share her journey, from moving to London to study at Francis Holland Regent’s Park Sixth Form, to campaigning for young carers’ rights and launching the Ask for ANI domestic abuse code word during the pandemic.

Jess then took part in a panel discussion led by two FHRP Sixth Form pupils before answering insightful audience questions, such as, “how can we encourage more young people to vote?” She urged students to think critically about political decision-making and using their collective voice to enact change.

For many A Level politics students in the room, this event was a fantastic opportunity for them to gain first-hand knowledge of life in the political sphere and the importance of civic engagement.

Huge thanks to Jess for taking time out of a busy schedule at Westminster to speak to students and field all manner of queries.
