On Wednesday afternoon, FHS were treated to two sporting masterclasses held by Camilla Buchanan and Gail Emms.
Netball Masterclass with Camilla Buchanan
Selected students from Year 7 to Year 12 had specialist netball training with coach Camilla Buchanan, Netball super league title winner and head coach for Saracens Mavericks. I thought that she pushed us and taught us some valuable skills to use in a netball match. We did drills to improve our use of back space, variety, direction and getting in front of your defender. In my opinion the best part of the session was the match we did at the end, where we used our new skills in real gameplay. Later, it was inspiring to learn about Camillaās journey, how she got there and the obstacles she had to face.

Badminton Masterclass with Gail Emms
A group of 14 girls were lucky enough to have a Badminton Masterclass with Olympic silver-medalist and World Champion Gail Emms. It was amazing seeing a new sport as we donāt usually play it in school and learning interesting facts for example, a shuttlecock can be hit at 260 mph! After learning the technique of how to hit the shuttle we played an intense game of Around the World and ended the masterclass with a few games of badminton. It was crazy how much everyone improved in just an hour and we even got to see a quick Ms Westwood v Gail Emms showdown! On the way back to school there were discussions of joining a Badminton club so it is safe to say Gail made a great impression. Thank you so much to Gail for leading the Masterclass and to Ms Westwood for organising it.
