On Friday 26th January, a group of LV pupils led a ‘Rockets and Robots Workshop’ at St Vincent’s RC Primary School. The team of six are involved in CanSat, which consists of building a mini-satellite that fits in a can and launching it on an ESA rocket. Part of the programme involves promoting their project, and all things STEM, to their community. They thought a STEM workshop at a local primary school would work brilliantly and be mutually beneficial. The afternoon was action-packed, and all involved had a lot of fun designing, building and launching rockets and playing with line-following robots. Mr BossĆ© joined us to facilitate the largest range rocket competition. The inspirational FHS team of students were excellent ambassadors both for STEM and our school. Fantastic work, Isla, Fern, Anya, Jade, Bianca and Juliette!

Here is what Anya had to say about it:

“This experience was very enjoyable. Having a chance to teach others about our project was not only good practice for the real event but also a more fun side to the competition. Making rockets and guiding robots gave a more interactive experience for everyone and encouraged the Year 6 pupils to gain more interest in the prospect of robotics when they move on to secondary school. For all of us FHS students, we found the experience quite exhausting (primary children have A LOT of energy!) but a nice shift away from the sometimes complicated work needed as part of the competition. Overall, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we hope they benefit from it too. I know I did!”
