This week our Upper Sixth Physics students visited the pop-up exhibition at Imperial College to celebrate the birthday, life and work of Abdus Salam.

Born in Pakistan on January 29, 1926, Salam founded the theory group at Imperial. The exhibition highlighted Salam’s significant contributions to theoretical physics, including his Nobel Prize-winning research on the unification of fundamental forces. Students engaged with Masters and PhD students, discussing their interactive displays and gaining insights into cutting-edge theoretical work. The trip provided a direct opportunity for UVI Physics students to connect with Salam’s legacy, and they even saw his Nobel Prize medal on display in the exhibit!

After a tour of the Salam exhibit, they went into the Great Hall for a talk by string theorist Professor Tasneem Zehra Husain, the first Pakistani female string theorist. Professor Husain, known for her extensive work on Salam’s legacy, delivered an insightful lecture on Salam’s work and life. Happy Birthday, Abdus Salam!
