Last week in Diversity Society, I led the discussion of the importance of Black History Month. We covered how black history does not only relate to black people but affects everybody and we discussed the erasure of black figures in the past. Discussing black, cultural innovators such as Beyoncé allowed everybody to understand the significant impact of black creativity.

Furthermore, exploring various important events such as Notting Hill Carnival, Black Lives Matter protests (2020) and the 1980s riots enabled everybody to understand the power of black culture and the unrelenting fight for equality and true freedom. It was a very interactive session where everybody could contribute their perspectives and questions and truly embodied what it means to be diverse. Coming to Diversity Society would not only allow you to learn from others but also to share your own experiences and how we can better ourselves individually and as a school.
