Celebrations were well underway last week for World Book Day at FHS Regent’s Park and around the globe.

Our students can be inspired to enter a world of imagination by posters featuring book recommendations from their peers and teachers hung up all over the school, especially the Library.

  • Stella suggests Carnegie winner Salt to the Sea which tells the story of four children travelling through Nazi Germany to the Wilhelm GustloffĀ from each of their perspectives.
  • Hannah has been enjoying the Keeper of the Lost Cities series, a fantasy adventure following the journey of twelve-year-old telepath Sophie Foster and her alicorn.
  • Ruby has found a new favourite in Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, the classic gothic romance starring the titular Jane and Mr Rochester.
  • Ms Lawrence has chosen Children’s Laurate Joseph Coelho’s verse novel The Girl Who Became a Tree, which explores the theme of grief in a safe literary space.
  • Ms Chapman and Athena have both recommended BabelĀ by R. F. Kuang, a dystopian about the power of language and the impact of colonialism, for our senior readers.

Junior Book Club will be delivering an assembly, sharing the books they have been reading and what their experiences of reading for pleasure. In particular they will discuss Green Rising by Lauren James, Show Us Who You Are by Elle McNicoll, and The Key of Code byĀ Aimee Lucido.
We are also looking forward to hosting our annual book fair in partnership with Daunt Books on Wednesday 8thĀ March, so that everyone has a chance to spend their Ā£1 book token!
