On Monday 21st January, Dr Alison Smith continued the ‘Women of Influence’ series by talking about her life as Chief Curator at the National Portrait Gallery.

Earning a degree in History of Art at Nottingham University, as well as an MA and PhD in History of Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art, Dr Smith openly spoke about the merits and downsides of her job. She offered advice to those interested in History of Art, and mentioned some worthy exhibitions currently on display at the National Portrait Gallery. Currently, Dr Smith is working on the ‘Inspiring People’ project, which aims to reinterpret collections at the Gallery. Dr Smith’s speech greatly inspired the girls at our school to pursue a job that they love and are passionate about, no matter the limitations.
