On Tuesday 27th September, Vija Vilcins of the London College of Fashion came in to give a talk about careers in the Creative Industries.
Vija described her own career path in fashion, which she has always loved. She spoke about the myriad of different ‘Creative Industries’, which stretch far beyond the traditional subjects one may associate with the word ‘creative’, such as Art. Vija, who now runs a course at University of the Arts London, told the girls how courses at the College of Fashion range from more obvious choices such as Womenswear and Accessories to subjects such as 3D Design and Fashion PR and Journalism. There are, Vija stressed, many more options whilst pursuing a creative career than you may at first realise.
Vija also showed the girls some beautiful and incredibly innovative examples of work produced by her current and past students, and described some of the career paths of UAL alumni. The girls were engaged throughout, as proved by their multitude of questions for Vija, ranging from requests for advice on A level subject choices to queries about specific modules within some of the degree courses offered at UAL.
It was a wonderfully inspiring talk and gave the girls a great insight into many industries. We are very grateful to Vija for coming in and giving such a fantastic talk.
