Over October Half Term a group of our girls flew out to Sri Lanka for a once in a life time sports tour.
The first few days in Sri Lanka we were in Kandy and we played numerous matches against local schools. As well as the sport we were able to visit a tea factory, spice garden and the temple of the tooth, with a visit to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage being the highlight of Kandy. The girls got to see the elephants playing in the river and feeding time which was incredible to see.
The next two locations were Colombo and Hikkaduwa, both set by the sea, where time was spent swimming and playing with wild turtles. A river safari and a Galle Dutch Fort visit were also among the fortunate things the girls got to experience.
Volunteering at the Rainbow Centre (a community centre the School has a close connection with) was a day they will all remember for a long time to come. Throughout the day our FHS girls bonded and played with the pupils there, which also allowed them to gain some perspective on actually how fortunate they are. The Rainbow Centre was very grateful for the £2000 we had raised for them.
On the pitch, the girls played with excellent skill and dedication. Each team improved tremendously and grew not only as individuals, but also as a team. The U14 and Senior netball team were undefeated, which was a fantastic achievement.
