On Monday 4th November we welcomed a speaker from the McLellan Practice to talk to our Sixth Form about drug and alcohol addiction.
Our speaker talked to the pupils about how we manage our feelings and how addiction is often a result of a disproportionate emotional reaction to a feeling. Our speaker shared his personal experience of addiction with the pupils and we were reminded that addiction does not discriminate and can affect a person regardless of background, career or wealth. His presentation gave us all a better understanding of how the misuse of drugs and alcohol can destroy lives and how certain personality types are more likely to take risks without thinking about the consequences.Ā We were reminded that it’s important to be aware of our feelings and develop strategies to regulate our responses. The pupils asked some insightful questions and it allowed us all to reflect on the way we react to our feelings.Ā
