On Monday 4th March, we were delighted to welcome Simon Bucknall to our School for this week’s Sixth Form Lecture.

Simon Bucknall is a professional speaker, coach and facilitator. He specialises in helping high-achieving people through the spoken word.

Simon shared some interesting personal anecdotes and some very useful tips which really resonated with our audience. First and foremost, he reassured everybody that public speaking is a skill and not a gift and that, therefore, it can be learnt and perfected. He explained how in an interview scenario the interviewee is not tested on the knowledge transferred but rather on their ability to access what is relevant to answer the question and highlighted the importance of being able to structure an answer on the spot. His final piece of advice for public speaking was “make a point to tell a story or tell a story to make a point”.
