On Friday 4th December, the Senior girls put on an enchanting performance of James Lapine’s and Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods.
The musical intertwines the plots of several fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. With characters taken from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Cinderella, the story follows a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family. The girls engaged in their work and collaborated so well on this project, in particularly challenging times, and it was heart-warming to see young people working together towards a common goal.
Here’s what our pupils had to say about the project!
Working on Into the Woods was a great opportunity for everyone involved to work together as a cast. Despite everything that has been going on this year this production has really allowed us to come together as a school and community. The work we did as an ensemble helped bring community to the project and I am so grateful to have been a part of it.

I am honoured to have had the opportunity to perform in Into the Woods. It has been a wonderful experience that really gave me a sense of teamwork and normality during confusing times such as these. I am very grateful for the experience and had a lot of fun.

Into the Woods was a welcome distraction in these stressful times as it offered a sense of joy to all those who participated, even to those who helped with lighting and directing. I am extremely thankful to all those who allowed us to make this event happen and hope that the spirit of collective working continues.

Into the Woods was so much fun to work on. Everyone involved is so lovely and talented, and I’m so grateful for being able to take part. It wasn’t easy, and we didn’t have a lot of time, but I think we did the best we could with what we’ve been given, and I’m really proud of the final outcome!
