On Monday 7th November, our Entrepreneurship Fortnight began.

Our programme of events began with a wonderful assembly from Five Talents UK and a talk by Robin Kermode in the afternoon. Robin is one of Europe’s leading communication coaches, and spoke to our Sixth Form about how they can appear more confident and calm in stressful situations, such as interviews and presentations.

Amongst other things, he asked the girls to name the ‘one thing that all confident people do’, and the answers came flying back to him from the audience: do they smile? Make eye contact? Speak slowly? Robin agreed that yes, these things are all important in the right situation, but the key element in appearing confident is ensuring you have a low centre of gravity. This ensures that you appear calm and unhurried.

Robin also gave the students tips on how to stand whilst public speaking, how to greet someone at the start of an interview, and how to engage with each and every member of an audience.

It was a wonderfully engaging talk which left our students far more confident about upcoming University interviews and ready to embrace any public speaking opportunities which may present themselves in their futures. Many thanks to Robin for coming in.
