The Lower Sixth were excited to welcome Dr Charlie Easmon and Suzanne Williams to FHS for their Leadership and Communication Day.

Dr Charlie Easmon MBBS MRCP MSc Public Health DTM&H DOccMed came to speak to students of Prejudice, how our history has led to persistent and continued bias, be it unconscious or not.  Illustrating his talk with suggested reading and anecdotes from his own career in the NHS and the experiences of his friends and peers. Culminating in a lively Q&A session where many students participated with intelligent, perceptive comments.  He left us with much to consider and some excellent recommendations for further research and study.

Suzanne Williams is a former chief hostage negotiator for the Metropolitan Police. Sue came to share her experiences of trying to communicate effectively in some of the most difficult of situations.  She has worked in some of the most dangerous places in the world over the last 30 years, including Syria negotiating with ISIS.  She explained the strategies to employ to help find a solution to a crisis without losing control or inflaming the situation.  Again, the students were fascinated and came with some excellent tips and skills.
