On Wednesday 7th February, our Lower Sixth art historians ventured to the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, where we saw the ‘Radical Landscapes’ exhibition. The students saw artworks which responded to the themes of Land and Nature, spanning a period of about two hundred years and including works from JMW Turner to Jeremy Deller. The students practiced their visual analysis skills and reflected on the innovatory ways nature has been represented over time. It was the perfect way to celebrate finishing the ‘Nature’ topic for their History of Art exam. We had lunch in the park afterwards where there was an impromptu and lively debate about who more effectively conveys their experiences of nature: Turner or Richard Long.
