The Francis Holland School German department organised and hosted a free-to-attend German study day for GCSE and A Level students on 13 November.

120 pupils attended the day, from eight different schools. Two thirds of attendees were from state schools, while one third were from independent schools, including Francis Holland. The GCSE students devised a series of creative and entertaining sketches, working with pupils from a mix of schools. One pupil said, “I had a great time and met people from all over England who enjoy German just as much as me. We had the chance to put the skills weā€™ve learnt into practice and to learn some new phrases such as ā€˜ach du heiliger bimbamā€™- oh my gosh.”

The A Level students took part in four workshops led by lecturers from Russell Group universities. One student said, “This has been an inspiring experience. I can’t wait to study German at university, and now I know I want to choose translation as well.”

The guest lecturers were delighted to speak to such a large and engaged group of students, and unanimously praised the students’ participation.
