This week, our Lower Sixth engineers had the opportunity to visit PCS Instruments as part of their Industrial Cadet Gold Award. This marks the sixth year that FHRP has participated in this initiative, which pairs teams of 4-6 Lower Sixth pupils with mentors from engineering firms.

To achieve their Gold Award, students work on a real-world engineering problem over seven months, producing a technical report and a project model. The programme culminates with a final assessment presentation to a panel of external engineers. A key component of the programme is the company visit.

Known for its expertise in tribology and its development of laboratory fuel and lubricant testing machines, PCS Instruments provided our FHRP team with an informative tour of their facilities. This year, the team has been tasked with building a bearing tester that measures the friction in a bearing under varying radial loads.

After the tour, our students presented a first draft of their work to their mentors and a panel of experienced engineers and received invaluable feedback on their project. It was an enriching and educational experience for everyone involved! Great work Amber, Penny, Mio, Istara, Bryony and Wendy!
