Discovery Week at Francis Holland Regent’s Park was bursting with excitement, curiosity, and hands-on learning, as pupils across the school immersed themselves in a wide variety of enriching activities.
Wild Science hosted captivating wildlife workshops, giving our Upper Fourth pupils the chance to get up close to some exotic animals – including rare snakes, geckos and even a tarantula! The day was full of awe and fascination as the girls learned about biodiversity and animal behaviour through live demonstrations. Meanwhile, the Upper Fourth were treated to a jaw-dropping pop-up planetarium experience in the Gym, where they embarked on a virtual exploration of the wonders of our solar system and beyond. Learning that a million Earths could fit inside the Sun was just one of many mind-blowing facts!
In a different voyage of discovery, the Upper Fourth took part in a Take Your Daughter to Work Day, gaining invaluable insight into the world of work through the lens of their parents’ and guardians’ careers.
They then returned to school to put their new-found business acumen to the test in this year’s FHRP Mini Apprentice. Working in teams, pupils were tasked with developing their very own chocolate bar business – creating a marketing strategy, choosing a USP and a target audience, and pitching their ideas to a panel of “investors.” From budgeting and branding to teamwork and time management, the girls showcased impressive entrepreneurial flair and creative thinking.
Elsewhere, the Lower Fourth discovered the wonders of nature during a vibrant day at Kew Gardens led by the Geography Department, while the Music Department organised for our Thirds to explore musical and cultural history on their trip to the Handel & Hendrix House, where they learned about the lives and legacies of two iconic and quite contrasting musicians – George Frideric Handel and Jimi Hendrix!
Discovery Week is always one to remember at Francis Holland Regent’s Park and we already have our calendars marked for next year!
