At the start of the summer holiday, a group of intrepid Year 11 and 12 pupils embarked on the experience of a lifetime with a World Challenge expedition to Borneo – a journey packed with adventure, cultural immersion, and meaningful conservation work!

The trip began with a walking tour of the old town in Kota Kinabalu, followed by lunch at a bustling food market and a boat trip to the idyllic Dinawan Island. Evenings were just as lively, with dinner at night markets and live music under the stars.

One of their most memorable experiences was a jungle trek to the remote Bamangan campsite. The girls learned to purify water from a stream, cook meals over a fire, and sleep in hammocks – all while surrounded by the dense rainforest.

The team also contributed to a conservation project, collecting saplings and planting trees to assist with a reforestation project, and even rescued a stranded tortoise! A sunset river cruise offered a magical glimpse of the elusive proboscis monkey.

A visit to a local primary school allowed them to connect with the community by playing games and helping students practise their English. Their journey ended with visits to the Sepilok rainforest centre, where they witnessed the incredible work of the orangutan and sun bear sanctuaries.

This trip was an unforgettable adventure that empowered our pupils to step out of their comfort zones, build resilience, and experience life far beyond the classroom. From conservation work to cultural exchange, it was a truly transformative journey that deepened their global awareness and leadership skills. An incredible opportunity that will inspire them for years to come!
