The Classics Department held it’s national Classics Conference on Friday 29th January, which has now been running annually for the past ten years.
As ever, it was a great success, with the two speakers, Prof. Matthew Leigh from St Anne’s College, Oxford and Dr. Elena Giusti from St John’s College, Cambridge, giving two clear and informative lectures each on the AS Latin set texts, Ovid Metamorphoses III and Cicero de Imperio. 130 pupils and teachers from around 25 different schools, which included not only London schools such as St Paul’s Boys, but also schools from as far as Merchiston College in Edinburgh and the Royal Academical Institution in Belfast. Our sixth form Latinists found the day highly useful at helping to put their study of the texts into their social and historical context.
