On Friday 28th September, thirteen of the Class of 1978 returned to school to celebrate their 40th anniversary on leaving Francis Holland.

For many, it was the first time they had stepped inside the school since completing Sixth Form and so was an extra-special occasion seeing friends from 40 years ago. Guests came from as near as London and as far afield as California!

The evening began with drinks and nibbles in the Library where everyone could catch up on each other’s news. Mr Fillingham, the Headmaster, also joined our alumni to tell them of the updates to the school since 1978. Following this, Mr Fillingham took the guests into the Head’s office – for many this was their first time inside a room once revered as pupils!

Next, the class went on a tour of the school. Here they found their full school photo and delighted in identifying each other. They also saw new developments such as the swimming pool and Gloucester Wing, and conjured memories in rooms that had existed during their time (including ground floor tutor rooms, the main hall and the art studio).

Back in the Library, a collection of photos, programmes and newsletters from the 1970s were on display and everyone enjoyed scanning through and reminiscing on them.

Thank you to everyone who came along, we look forward to keeping in touch! If you would like to host a reunion too, please do email alumni@fhs-nw1.org.uk.
