To mark Black History Month (which started on 1st October), Assistant Head (Teaching & Learning), Ms Lewis gave an assembly on the Windrush generation and scandal.

The assembly focused on Paulette Wilson, one of the many black Britons who had their lives devastated by Britain’s immigration system in 2016. Wilson’s decision to speak to The Guardian in 2017 about her experiences encouraged dozens of other people to come forward and describe how they had also found themselves wrongly classified as immigration offenders. TheĀ assembly reminded us all that remembering Britain’s history means acknowledging that racism is much more than direct discrimination or individual bias, but the product of centuries-long historical processes – which is why it is so important for our country and school to mark Black History Month, and to keep the conversation going beyond October.
