On Thursday 15th October, we were delighted to welcome Detective Inspector Ahenkora Bediako for a virtual Sixth Form lecture as part of our celebrations to mark Black History Month 2020.

Having worked as a Police Officer for 15 years, Ahenkora joined us to discuss his experience of race relations in the UK’s Police Force. After graduating from City, University of London with a degree in Mathematics in 2007, Ahenkora immediately applied for a full-time job in the Met police, joining in 2008. Whilst waiting to start his full-time police training, he briefly worked in the Houses of Parliament as an admin assistant and data analyst.Ā  On joining the police full time, he has worked on emergency response, internal investigations, anti-corruption and in various investigative departments.Ā  He became a detective in 2012, promoted to detective sergeant in 2015 and detective inspector in 2018.Ā  He currently works within the Modern Slavery & Child Exploitation Unit which is the Met police unit responsible for investigating cases of modern slavery and child exploitation.

Currently studying a masterā€™s degree in Applied Criminology and Police Management at the University of Cambridge, Ahenkora intends to conduct research into the effect of organised crime on the recruitment of vulnerable people into drug dealing.

A huge thank you to Ahenkora for visiting us and being a part of our events marking this year’s Black History Month.
