On Thursday 18th May 2023 Ascension Day, we were very pleased to welcome the Right Rev’d David Urquhart, Associate Bishop of London, Bishop to the Archbishops of Canterbury and York and ex Bishop of Birmingham to preside at our Confirmation service. The Rev Clare Dowding and Father Michael Fuller, Priests at St Cyprian’s, also assisted in the service.

The two candidates presented, Sancia and Helena, were pleased to be able to celebrate a school confirmation service once again after a four year gap.  We offer them our congratulations along with our prayers and best wishes, as they continue on their Christian journey.

Ascension Day has always been an important day at FHS. In Canon Francis Holland’s time all the girls travelled to Canterbury for the service in the Cathedral and a picnic. Nowadays, though we only walk across Ivor Place to St Cyprian’s Church, it is still always a special day.

The actual moment of Confirmation for the two candidates was a solemn and deeply spiritual time which I am sure the girls will always remember and the service concluded with the each girl processing behind The Bishop carrying a lighted candle .

The service was followed by a reception in the Gloucester Room with family and friends. Mrs Woodcock welcomed the Bishop and invited him to sign the school register and he kindly presented confirmation certificates and the gift of a Bible from the school, to each girl.
