On Friday 31st January the Sixth Form biologists enjoyed a fascinating talk by our biologist-in-residence about one of the world’s most toxic substances: Botox. Dr Isabel Glover delivered the talk on toxins and their effects on our nervous system.

Sixth Form pupil Charlotte-Rose said:

Dr Glover began by telling us about the most toxic substances and asked us which we thought was the deadliest. Our answers included cyanide and nerve gas. We were shocked to discover that none of these substances were as lethal as Botox. Botox attacks the nerve synapses preventing neurotransmitters from working. Dr Glover was brilliant at explaining this complex topic, much of which is normally reserved for degree level.

I am greatly looking forward to Dr Glover’s next talk. After this one however, I think i’ll be keeping my wrinkles!
