For our last Hale Lecture of this academic year we welcomed another inspirational woman leader, Noëlla Coursaris Musunka. Imogen (Year 12) introduced Noëlla, the Founder & CEO of Malaika. Founded in 2007, from an idea on a napkin, Noëlla shared with us how her perseverance and determination brought her idea to life. Today Malaika empowers girls and their families through education, clean water, vocational training, agricultural, sports and health programs. Noella faced some challenging panel questions from Scarlet (Year 12), Nana (Year 12, St Marylebone) and Gigi (Year 12) on how Malaika has sustained offering a free quality education to students, the issue of period poverty and it’s impact on girls education and juggling motherhood, managing the foundation and sitting on a range of advisory boards. In this Noëlla emphasised the power of education to open doors for all and encouraged our girls not to take their access to education for granted. The audience were keen to know how they can be involved and support the work Malaika is doing. And one audience member found out that Malaika means angel in Swahili. We are grateful to Noëlla for her time, Rose (Year 12) and Anabelle (Year 7) did a fantastic job thanking Noella and presenting her with flowers. We are pleased that students from St Marylebone School were able to join us, many thanks to everyone in attendance.
Save the date and sign up to our Autumn Term lectures with Jenny Halpern Prince on 25 September and Jodie Steele on 13 November.
