Over the first week of the Summer Term, 14 A Level geographers – accompanied by Ms Hack and Ms Beauchamp – journeyed up to North Wales to the Rhyd-y-Creuau Field Studies Centre to collect data for the coursework portion of our assessments.

Throughout our trip, we applied our learning of the syllabus so far in the gorgeous scenery of Snowdonia. We trialled various data collection methods in different settings including measuring infiltration rates and carbon content in woodland areas, surveying residents of the local area and (my personal favourite) exploring the now glaciated upland landscape of Cwm Idwal. Being there in the Spring meant seeing some adorable lambs playing in the fields – my highlight!

On the fourth day of our trip, after agreeing on our investigation questions, we split off into smaller groups and returned to one of the sites we had previously visited to collect the data relating to our individual questions. For me, this was another trip to the beautiful Cwm Idwal and the Nant Ffrancon Valley.

This field trip was a fantastic opportunity to see our learning come to life and to explore landforms that are unique to glaciated landscapes. Overall, the time we had to collect our data was extremely valuable and enjoyable and was a great way to spend time with friends and ease ourselves into the term ahead.

Many thanks to Ms Hack and Ms Beauchamp for taking us on the trip – we are all very grateful!
