On Tuesday 9th March, we welcomed the FHS community back to School and celebrated this year’s International Women’s Day!

Pupils and staff were greeted by a magnificent balloon archway display in the colours of the suffragette movement as they entered the School building. The Head Girl’s Team welcomed girls in the courtyard garden and wished them all a successful first day back in School.

In keeping with this year’s ‘Choose to Challenge’ International Women’s Day theme, Assistant Head (Academic), Ms Lewis, asked pupils and staff to submit their pledges for the year ahead. Thank you to everyone who shared their challenges and photos with us. These were compiled into a video which was then shared during form time on Tuesday and reminded us all of the social, economic, political and cultural achievements of women around the world and the work that still needs to be done to accelerate gender parity.

To round off the celebrations, pupils and staff were treated to music from the Scottish Highlands as they left School on Tuesday, from a female Bagpipes player, in anticipation of National Bagpipes Day on Wednesday 10th March. As the sun went down on Tuesday evening, the School was illuminated in purple to mark International Women’s Day 2021, and the end of an important day for our School community.
