Congratulations to Gigi H who took part in the ARTiculation Prize at the National Gallery, a nationally acclaimed public speaking initiative for young people, designed to promote the appreciation and discussion of visual culture.

The adjudicator (Dr Frances Varley, associate lecturer at the Courtauld) praised Gigi’s ‘rich visual argument’ and incisive assessment of Hepworth’s contribution to the representation of nature and art. Each candidate was also asked a question by the adjudicator following their presentation and I was so impressed by the spontaneous answer she provided when asked about why she thought the work was titled ‘Spring’. Having participated in this stage of the competition Gigi is now a member of the ‘ARTiculation alumni network’ and will be offered opportunities like work experience and the chance to write for the National Gallery website or deliver talks at the National Gallery lates.
