We are delighted to announce that Upper Fifth pupil, Lara T has won the 15-18 years category of the Young Food Writer of the Year competition.

Hosted by The Week Junior, the competition was established in 2008 and is the only national food writing competition aimed at children and young people. The focus of this year’s competition, which was in partnership with The Guild of Food Writers, was ‘Food and Heroes’. Entrants were encouraged to write about their hero – a friend or relative, a sports person, a historical figure or someone fictional, and the role that food has played in their life.

Lara’s superb entry focused on her cooking hero, Mama Lee. Lara talks us through her Grandma’s extraordinary life and how Mama Lee’s culinary wisdom shaped her childhood.

Congratulations to Lara on this achievement and thank you for treating us to this fantastic piece of food writing. To read Lara’s winning entry, click here.
