On Monday, we had the opportunity to celebrate the beginning of Black History Month by celebrating the contributions of Black Women during an assembly, specifically the legacy of Claudia Jones, founder of the Notting Hill Carnival; this coincided with this year’s theme of ‘Saluting our sisters’. We were also lucky to hear from two other students in the Lower Fifth who eloquently spoke about how they celebrate and embrace their black heritage. Overall, the assembly was enlightening and reminded us of the invaluable contributions of Black women and their significant impact on British history.
