Last week, a group of our Lower Fifth students attended Horizons Day at Westminster School, a thought-provoking conference themed ‘The Edge’.
Inspired by a recent book by Westminster alumnus Jonathan Maxwell, the event aimed to help pupils engage with the ‘global good’ and explore the rapidly changing world shaped by the pandemic, geopolitics, and emerging technologies.
The girls took part in a full day of keynote talks, breakout sessions, and debates, delving into topics such as ecological and geopolitical shifts, space exploration, apocalyptic fiction in literature and film, and global journalism. The programme highlighted the value of interdisciplinary thinking in understanding today’s most pressing issues.
As part of the event, pupils were also invited to enter an essay competition, choosing one of four challenging themes—from energy and geopolitics to language, literature, and science fiction.
It was a truly inspiring day of discussion and discovery—well done to all who took part!
