Tomorrow is Holocaust Memorial Day. This morning we marked the occasion with a poignant assembly on the history of the Holocaust and the Kindertransport. Huge thank you to Mr Bartholomew, Mrs Bexon and Miss Smith for leading the assembly and to our students for listening so respectfully.
We then had the honour of welcoming Holocaust Survivor, Cirla Lewis MBE, to FHS. Hearing Cirlaās survivor testimony was incredibly moving for our students, who showed great thoughtfulness with their questions. We are so grateful to Cirla for giving her time to share her story.
Maddie (LVI) described Cirla’s visit below:
“This Friday, Francis Holland has the privilege to hear the story of holocaust survivor Cirla Lewis MBE. She spoke with elegance when recounting the story of how she survived during the war in Ghent. She also reminded us of the resilienceĀ Ā of the Jewish people and the bravery of those who risked their lives to protect them and keep them safe. We are deeply grateful and incredibly moved, and she reminded us of the fragility of freedom.”
