Eco Society has held two fund-raising activities this half term: a home-made cake sale, and a pre-loved clothes sale, to support the work of Oceana, a charity that campaigns to protect the oceans and sea-life from the terrifying and ever-increasing problem of plastic pollution.
The cake sale, which included several vegan options, was a sell out and raised £191, with only three pieces of cakes left at the end of short break – and I demolished (and paid for) two of them!!
The pre-loved clothes sale was held at lunch time on ‘green’ mufti day, to jointly celebrate National Green Week and St Patrick’s Day. The idea was to remind everyone that you don’t have to subscribe to the fast fashion juggernaut that social media advertising, and shops like Primark, encourage us to jump on. Great new outfits can be found among the clothes that others have grown out of or got bored with wearing. There were numerous bargains to be had at the sale, as everything was super cheap. Oxfam in Marylebone High Street was also delighted to have all the unbought bargains, so nothing was thrown away or wasted. This mufti/sale day raised £1238 so the grand total, together with the £50 raised at the second-hand book stall at the Christmas Fair, in December, is just shy of £1500.
A brilliant achievement by Eco Society! Well done.
