BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Sixth Form

Life here is not just about A Levels. Plenty of opportunities lie in store to develop intellectual curiosity, independence and real-world skills.

A man in a pink shirt leads a discussion in a classroom with several students seated at desks using laptops and taking notes.

THE ELECTIVE PROGRAMME

Taking three A Levels? Expand your interests and broaden your horizons with an Elective Course. It could even lead to a recognised qualification.

Options include: French for Business, the Certificate in Financial Education, the Sports Leader Award, the Engineering Education Scheme, Social Change in Art, Music, Literature and our Zine magazine.

THE EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION (EPQ)

“Autism in Women: Why Do They Face a Tougher Battle?” … “How Significantly Did Independence From the British Empire Impact Nigerian Art?” … what topic might you like to explore further as your EPQ?

The EPQ is a perfect opportunity to develop independent research and academic writing skills that universities value. Choose to write a 5,000-word essay or maybe create an artefact (such as a stop-motion short film or some other form of visual exploration) together with a 1,000-word report.

58% of our EPQ students achieved A*–A in August 2025.

PIONEERING LECTURE SERIES

Which high profile person would you like to interview? How about Maryam Ziarati McLoughlin, General Counsel and CEO of The Lwyr, or Dr Alex Mahon, CEO of Channel 4? Our student-led Hale Lecture Series cultivates confidence, research, critical thinking and public speaking skills.

Our Women in Tech initiative is an empowering way to help bridge the STEM gender gap. Female role models in technology give talks, workshops, and mentor, inspiring students to become future industry leaders.

WEEKLY LECTURE PROGRAMME

Be inspired, challenged and informed by weekly visiting speakers. Last year, Yara Ghrewati enthralled with her talk on survival skills and resilience while Anouschka Menzies and Thommy Tillotson provided invaluable insights on networking and interviews.

Relationships, sexual health, legal awareness around drugs and harassment, and topics supporting Fundamental British Values and our school’s core values are just some of the subjects to have captivated us.

TED X

Our first ever TEDx event in 2024 was an exciting milestone.

Six Lower Sixth students took to the stage to share their visions for the future, responding to the prompt, “I have a dream.” From transforming the film and comic book industries to tackling fast fashion and fake news, the talks provided a phenomenal platform for ideas, critical thinking and engaging with the world beyond the classroom.

NATIONAL EVENTS

Sixth Form students take part  have taken part in recognised programmes and competitions such as:

Young Enterprise: A dynamic insight into the world of business with hands-on experience – from developing innovative products to pitching ideas to real investors. Builds vital skills in teamwork, resilience, entrepreneurship, and confidence.

CanSat: This unique and challenging annual competition offers real-life experience of aerospace engineering and STEM applications in a small-scale space project. Students design and build a satellite simulation within the size and shape of a soft drink can, integrating key systems such as power, sensors and communications. CanSats are launched at a national event, with each device returning to Earth via parachutes engineered by the students.
