ACADEMIC LIFE

Taking a deep dive into subjects you love is demanding. Yet it’s also incredibly rewarding.

ACADEMIC LIFE

Our Sixth Form curriculum offers an exciting choice of 24 A Level courses, including the familiar and the new such as Economics, History of Art, Government and Politics, and Psychology. Most students take three A Levels supplemented by an Elective Course, and a few even choose to study four A Levels.

Yet there’s much more to Sixth Form academic life here than just A Levels:

  • Develop independent research and academic writing skills that universities value by taking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
  • Explore new areas of interest with an Elective Course. It could even lead to a recognised qualification that enhances your university applications.
  • Develop study skills and presentation techniques
  • Keep active and build teamwork skills with PE lessons
  • Get advice on careers and higher education through our Life Programme:

The Life Programme

The new Francis Holland Regent’s Park Life Programme has been designed around five core pillars that are essential for our pupils to acquire to enter the workforce as forward-thinking, confident, curious and resilient young women. Over the course of each year, pupils study five core topics: Futures, Digital, Oracy, Research (including study skills) and Leadership and Enterprise. The programme is a spiral curriculum, where key concepts and skills are revisited from Thirds to Upper Sixth to enable pupils to develop a robust toolbox of skills and experiences for life after Francis Holland Regent’s Park.

These programmes are complemented by our Futures Programme which prepares pupils to navigate an evolving world with resilience and purpose.

A SMOOTH TRANSITION

There are daily check-ins with Form Tutors while tutor groups include both Lower and Upper Sixth – a great way for Lower Sixth students to gain insight from their Upper Sixth peers into university applications and public exam preparation.

Life in Linhope House, our dedicated Sixth Form space, fosters the perfect balance between focused study and relaxation, with soundproofed study booths, breakfast bar and spacious Common Room.

DIGITAL LEARNING

Digital literacy is a key part of our teaching and learning. We’re a Microsoft School and integrate Windows devices and Office 365 into daily teaching and learning as powerful digital tools.

Digital inking plays a crucial role, from engaging with content in dynamic ways to using digital textbooks and online resources.

You’ll learn how to evaluate credible online sources, reference correctly and avoid plagiarism through The Life Programme. A whole school referencing approach supports this, promoting independent research for NEAs, EPQs and university preparation through using academic platforms like JSTOR, The London Library and Turnitin Similarity. AI tools are explored with an emphasis on academic integrity.

“In the Sixth Form, there’s so many different opportunities… they prepare you for that next stage of life really well.”

SEND

We focus on developing potential and personal growth; we celebrate neurodiversity and see it as a strength.

Our Learning Enhancement Department works alongside subject specialists and the Pastoral Team so that the curriculum and opportunities inside and outside of the classroom are accessible to all. We also focus on developing independent learning.

Small class sizes in our newly appointed Sixth Form Centre are ideal for bespoke teaching and adaptations. Students can excel this way to access the widest range of future educational opportunities, including Oxford, Cambridge and leading Russell Group and American universities.

If you’ve an existing access arrangement and/or diagnostic report when joining Sixth Form, the Head of Sixth Form and Head of Learning Enhancement will be in touch to ensure a smooth transition. Information will be shared with teaching staff so that lessons can be adapted appropriately. Neurodiverse students and SEND students can also benefit from one-to-one support with specialist teachers.
