We are incredibly proud of Gaia, Megan, Sofia and Istara for successfully completing their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in Snowdonia this summer. Five days of trekking, wild camping and orienteering in some of the UK’s most challenging (and wet!) conditions is no small feat, and their perseverance, teamwork and good humour throughout are truly inspiring.
Here is what Istara had to say about their achievement:
“Gold Duke of Edinburgh is a test perseverance, teamwork and problem-solving. At the end of August Gaia, Megan, Sofia, and I travelled to Snowdonia to set off on a five-day and four-night expedition. Over the course of the week, we orienteered our way around mountains, past lakes, and camped in both campsites and in the wild.
Despite the weather being less than ideal, with heavy rain for four days, we still managed to keep our spirits high and enjoyed beautiful landscapes. A particular highlight was wild camping on the final night, where we camped at the base of a mountain with a gorgeous view overlooking the river Conwy, with only 60,000 sheep around to keep us company.
Potential trench foot and boil in the bag food aside, the sense of achievement after having completed the trek was unbeatable, and after working towards this award for three years we are all so proud of what we have accomplished and have come back more confident in ourselves, that we can achieve anything we set our minds to.”
Huge congratulations to the girls on this outstanding achievement!
