Over the half-term break, a group of Sixth Form students and staff journeyed to Sri Lanka for an unforgettable trip to visit the Rainbow Centre – a charity founded by a former Francis Holland Regent’s Park parent, dedicated to providing education and care to children living in extreme poverty.
As long-standing supporters of the Rainbow Centre, we were thrilled to continue strengthening this partnership following the incredible success of our annual Sponsored Walk last month, which raised over £27,000 for the charity. This trip gave students the unique opportunity to see first-hand how their fundraising will transform children’s lives.
Upon arrival, the group received a warm Sri Lankan welcome – greeted at the airport with stunning handmade garlands before a day exploring the historic coastal city of Galle. During their first full day at the Rainbow Centre, students immersed themselves in classroom activities, forming bonds with the children and gaining invaluable experience in leadership and teaching. One of the most memorable moments of the visit was accompanying the children to a nearby turtle sanctuary – a joyful afternoon filled with curiosity, care and shared excitement.
Beyond their work at the Centre, pupils enjoyed sampling delicious local cuisine at a beachfront restaurant, white-water rafting, and climbing the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress for spectacular views over the jungle landscape. The group also visited the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy – one of Sri Lanka’s most revered cultural and spiritual sites.
This remarkable experience allowed our pupils to step far beyond the familiar routines of London school life. They embraced a new culture, contributed meaningfully to a community in need, and returned home with broadened horizons, lasting memories, and a deeper sense of gratitude.
We are incredibly proud of the students for the compassion, energy, and positivity they brought to this very special trip and extremely grateful to the accompanying staff who made it possible.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Sponsored Walk and helped us continue our vital work with the Rainbow Centre.
