Lower Sixth Mock Trial

29/04/2026

This week, the Lower Sixth took part in the first annual Francis Holland Regent’s Park Mock Trial. Those involved took on the case with enthusiasm, which centred around the tricky issue of self-defence. To prepare for the trial, students were fortunate enough to attend a workshop with Mr Christopher Jenkins, a barrister specialising in criminal law. In this workshop, students learned how to deliver persuasive legal speeches and question witnesses effectively. They also gained an insight into life as a barrister and the various routes to a legal career.

The Linhope House Common Room was transformed into our very own courtroom, complete with Prosecution Counsel, Defence, witnesses, a Court Clerk and a Jury. We even had a Court Artist, Eloise, creating some fantastic sketches of those involved in the trial.

The trial was a huge success, and all students involved put forward convincing and thoroughly-prepared cases. We were delighted to welcome Ms Lorna Badham from Outer Temple Chambers to judge the trial. In her summing-up, Ms Badham noted that she was particularly impressed with the eloquence and confidence that all who participated displayed. The award for ‘Best Advocate’ was awarded to Eleanor, and ‘Most Compelling Witness’ was awarded to Maya for her portrayal of a defence witness.

Congratulations to all students who were involved. The future of the legal profession certainly looks bright!
