It’s that time of year again… Discovery Week! This action-packed week rolls around every year to introduce our students to new challenges, expand their worldviews and allow them to explore beyond their comfort zones. Whilst the Lower Fifth and Lower Sixth enjoyed exciting MFL trips around Europe, here’s a round up of what each year group have been up to this week…

Thirds

To celebrate their first Discovery Week, the Thirds spent Monday exploring themes of inclusion, belonging, difference and friendship in the hit musical ‘Wicked’. They spent the morning exploring the play’s script before each picking a quote from the play and creating short films.

On Tuesday, they enjoyed exciting trips to the Royal College of Music and the Royal Albert Hall.

Wednesday’s activities took them to more of London’s iconic cultural hotspots as they visited both the Tate Modern and Tate Britain, and travelled in style via Thames Clipper between the two!

Thursday saw an exciting orienteering session in Paddington Rec and a yoga escape room around school, leaving them feeling very zen ahead of their first Prize-Giving on Friday.

Lower Fourth

The Lower Fourth took a short trip to Wetherby Senior School on Monday to participate in an exciting ‘Dragon’s Den’ style workshop, teaming up with their students to come up with innovative products. Congratulations to our winning team ‘Foozy’!

On Tuesday, they ventured into our proverbial back garden, Regent’s Park, to meet all the animals at London Zoo, before setting up their magnificent displays for our annual Science Fair in the evening.

On Wednesday, students spent the morning channelling their inner Willy Wonkas by inventing new chocolate bar brands for our Mini-Apprentice workshop. They were tasked with designing their products, creating business strategies, marketing plans and product prototypes, before working on their pitches. A select few groups reached the finals and presented their products to our panel of experts. Congratulations to the winning team ‘Qali’ for inventing their collagen-infused chocolate bar! The afternoon featured a Mini Maths Olympics with guest speaker Darren Harris, mathematician and British Paralympian.

Thursday featured many art-based activities with an art wellbeing walk in the park and trips to the National Portrait Gallery.

Upper Fourth

The Upper Fourth took their first foray into the world of work on Monday for ‘Take Your Daughter to Work Day’!

On Tuesday, they showcased their Classics projects in the Upper Fourth Classics Competition project finals in the Hall. In the afternoon, they listened respectfully to a talk given by the Jewish Museum on the history of Kindertransport.

On Wednesday, the Upper Fourth ventured south of the river to Kew Gardens with the Geography Department and explored the garden’s beautiful and diverse foliage.

Thursday morning saw a fascinating ‘Women in Tech’ talk and panel Q&A event, followed by talks on Windrush, Investment and Inflation in the afternoon.

What a week! This has been a brilliant conclusion to the academic year, and we are delighted to be gathering in St Marylebone Parish Church tomorrow for our annual Prize-Giving.
