Earlier this month, our Lower Sixth Industrial Cadets achieved their Gold Award, after delivering a fantastic final presentation to a panel of professional engineers. They were assessed by STEM experts from Frazer-Nash, UKAEA, and AtkinsRéalis.
The team gave an outstanding presentation of their project, FIFI (Food In Fridge Inventory), a smart fridge companion. FIFI consists of a Raspberry Pi with an integrated barcode scanner and a touchscreen interface, enabling users to log the best-before dates of food items. It then identifies items approaching expiry and uses AI to generate recipes based on which items need to be used first.
The assessors praised the project, describing it as “a superb, well-written report,” and commended the team for delivering “a functioning prototype with clear real-world relevance.” They concluded: “You should be proud of the work you have achieved.”
Congratulations to team FIFI on their Gold Award success! We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and look forward to seeing what’s next for our budding engineers…
STEM is thriving at Francis Holland Regent’s Park and our Industrial Cadet Award participation each year is just one example of the range of opportunities available to our pupils, forming part of a thoroughly extensive offering designed to encourage them to think critically, creatively and curiously!
