On Friday morning, the whole school gathered in the Hall to celebrate our 147th Birthday!
Our Head, Mrs Woodcock, opened the assembly by reminding us of the work of our founder, Canon Francis Holland, who formed the original cohort of pupils at 6 Upper Baker Street on 1 October 1878 with his wife Mary Sybilla. Mrs Woodcock then invited us to thank the many others who have, over the past 147 years, helped to shape the school that we have today.
As is tradition, we rose together to sing the school hymn, before we heard from our Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl, with a heartfelt address to Canon Francis Holland, thanking him for founding our school and updating him on what our school has been up to over the past year – from trips to destinations thousands of miles away from our home in central London, such as Borneo and Costa Rica, to the opening of our brand new Library, which will serve and inspire generations of pupils to come.
Each year, our birthday is a fitting reminder of the culture that our founder created – a sisterhood that uplifts, empowers and celebrates each other’s successes, which remains at the heart of everything that we do. Canon Francis Holland’s legacy lives on through the countless pupils that have passed through our halls – leaders, creators and innovators.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be a birthday without a cake, which was presented to the school having been baked by our fantastic catering team. As is tradition on the school’s birthday, the cake was cut by both our oldest and youngest pupils before we, of course, sang Happy Birthday!
Pupils enjoyed birthday cupcakes at breaktime, before we carried the joyous spirit into the afternoon for our annual Sponsored Walk in Regent’s Park.
Happy 147th Birthday Francis Holland Regent’s Park!
