This half term, pupils from Francis Holland Regent’s Park embraced the opportunity to explore Italy’s rich cultural heritage with not one, but two unforgettable overseas trips – a Choir Tour to Florence and a Classics Trip to Rome.
Harmony in Florence
Our talented choir embarked on a spectacular musical journey to Florence, performing a series of concerts in breathtaking venues across the city. Highlights included singing in the Basilica di San Paolino and the Church of Santa Maria a Ripa in Empoli – experiences that will no doubt remain treasured memories.
In between performances, the group soaked up the artistic beauty and historic charm of Florence: wandering its piazzas, sampling delicious Italian cuisine, and taking in world-famous landmarks that make the city a proud cradle of the Renaissance.
Classics Came to Life in Rome
Meanwhile, another group of pupils headed to Rome, stepping into the world of the ancient civilisation they study in the classroom. Their itinerary featured some of the Eternal City’s most iconic sights – the Colosseum, Pantheon, and spectacular views from the top of the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument.
A walking tour showcased the vibrant Piazza Navona, and the group experienced a truly extraordinary moment when their visit to the Vatican coincided with King Charles’ audience with the Pope! Pupils were also treated to a specialist guided tour of the Capitoline Museums with Ms Williams, bringing artefacts and stories of antiquity to life. Before the trip ended, they visited the Circus Maximus, imagining the roar of crowds during ancient chariot races, and enjoyed plenty of traditional Italian food at local ristorantes.
Both trips provided exceptional cultural, educational and personal enrichment, offering pupils the chance to deepen their learning beyond the classroom and experience European history and heritage first-hand.
A huge thank you to all staff who planned and accompanied these amazing adventures – and grazie to Italy for a magical half term!
