Last week, our Year 12 engineers travelled to Oxford Sigma as part of their journey towards the Industrial Cadets Gold Award. Oxford Sigma is a materials engineering company developing advanced materials for demanding environments such as fusion energy and other high-performance technologies.
During the visit, students met the company’s team of engineers and heard about the innovative projects they are working on.
The highlight of the day was our students presenting their own project: FIFI – Food in Fridge Inventory.
FIFI is a smart fridge companion designed to reduce food waste and encourage healthier home cooking. By scanning items as they are placed in the fridge, the system logs best-before dates and tracks what food you have available. Using AI, FIFI suggests recipes based on ingredients that should be used first, helping households waste less food and make smarter meal choices.
The team delivered a confident presentation and demonstrated FIFI in action. The project will also be entered into the Raspberry Pi Competition, as well as forming part of their submission for the Industrial Cadets Gold Award.
A huge thank you to the team at Oxford Sigma for welcoming our students and sharing their expertise.
