FHS 2012 Olympics

To celebrate the hosting of the 2012 Olympics in our city, FHS are running a full year of Olympic events. In hockey, netball, mini-marathon, football, rounders and swimming plus the athletics of sports day, all forms and staff will compete under the colours of major Olympic nations.

Pupils will be encouraged to wear their adopted nation’s colours during events plus additional flourishes which may well see the Australians wearing hats with corks, the Dutch wearing clogs and the British team carrying umbrellas! There is a medals prize for the form with the most gold medals and also a points prize which will reward placings, fair play, participation and “patriotism”.

A special Olympics noticeboard will display standings throughout the year and the winners are hoping to get tickets for the Olympic games themselves. Head of PE, Jane Tucker, and her colleague Colette Mahieu launched the campaign in an energetic assembly in which forms were allocated countries by the drawing of specially-marked table tennis balls from a hat. The process caused much excitement with some alliteratively-appropriate pairings such as IIIJ - Jamaica and LVT - Turkey! Watch this space for more updates on this exciting initiative.  Click here for the latest results on the medal table.  (updated 29th March 2012)
